Abu Dawud (4096), Ibn Saad (1/459), and Abu Shaykh in Akhlaq an-Nabi ﷺ (p. 97) all narrated it through Muhammad bin Abu Yahya, who said, Ikrima narrated to me that he saw Ibn Abbas, and he mentioned it. Its chain is hasan because of Muhammad bin Abu Yahya Aslami, for he is one whose hadith is hasan.It was narrated from Ubayd bin Khalid that he said, "While I was walking in Madinah, someone behind me said, 'Raise your lower garment, for that is more godfearing and more lasting.' I turned and it was the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I said, 'Messenger of Allah, it is only a striped cloak.' He said, 'Do you not have an example in me?' I looked, and his lower garment reached halfway down his shins."Tirmidhi narrated it in Shamail (113), Nasai in Kubra (9603, 9604), Tayalisi (1286), and Ahmad (23086), all through Ashath bin Salim Abu Shatha, from his paternal aunt, from her paternal uncle Ubayd bin Khalid, who said, and he mentioned it. Ashath's aunt is Ruhm bint Aswad. Hafiz said in Taqrib, "She is not known."In similar meaning, it was narrated from Salama bin Akwa that he said, "Uthman bin Affan used to wear his lower garment down to the middle of his shins, and he said, 'This is how my companion's lower garment used to be,' meaning the Prophet ﷺ." Tirmidhi narrated it in Shamail (114) and Abu Shaykh in Akhlaq an-Nabi ﷺ (p. 96), both through Abdullah bin Mubarak, from Musa bin Ubayda, from Iyas bin Salama bin Akwa, from his father, and he mentioned it. Its chain is daif because of Musa bin Ubayda Rabathi, for his hadith is daif.A note. The printed edition of Abu Shaykh's work omits "Ibn Mubarak narrated to us from Musa bin Ubayda," but it is present in the other copies.
