Reported by Tirmidhi in his Sunan (1744) and in Shamail (91), Nasai (5204), and Ahmad (1746, 1755), all of them through the route of Hammad bin Salama, who said, "I saw Ibn Abu Rafi wearing his ring on his right hand, so I asked him about that, and he said, 'I saw Abdullah bin Jafar wearing his ring on his right hand, and he said, "The Prophet ﷺ used to..."'" the hadith. Its isnad is hasan because of Ibn Abu Rafi, who is Abdul-Rahman bin Abu Rafi, from whom the compilers of the Sunan collections narrated. Ibn Main said of him, "Salih al-hadith" (sound in hadith), and Dhahabi said, "Well known, a group of scholars deemed him reliable, though some did not rely on him as proof."Tirmidhi transmitted from Bukhari that he said, "This is the soundest thing narrated from the Prophet ﷺ on this topic." This narration is corroborated by Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Aqeel, from Abdullah bin Jafar, reported by Tirmidhi in Shamail (92) and Ibn Majah (3647), though its isnad contains Ibrahim bin Fadl, who is discarded (matruk).A narration with the same meaning is reported from Jabir bin Abdullah, that the Prophet ﷺ used to wear his ring on his right hand. This is reported by Tirmidhi in Shamail (93), but its isnad contains Abdullah bin Maymun bin Dawud al-Qaddah, who is discarded (matruk). Likewise, Abu Shaykh reported it in Akhlaq al-Nabi ﷺ (pp. 107–108) through another route from Jabir, but its isnad contains Haram bin Uthman al-Ansari, who is also discarded (matruk).
