The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was the most handsome of people, the most generous of people, and the most courageous of people. One night, the people of Madinah were alarmed by a sound, and some men set off toward it. There they met the Messenger of Allah ﷺ already returning, riding a horse belonging to Abu Talha bareback, with a sword slung around his neck, saying, "Do not be afraid, do not be afraid."He said, "We found it to be like a vast sea," or, "Indeed it is a vast sea."
Bukhari reported it in Kitab al-Adab (6033), and Muslim in Kitab al-Fadail (48:2307), both through the route of Hammad bin Zayd, from Thabit, from Anas, who said what has already been mentioned.Bukhari added, "on a horse belonging to Abu Talha, bareback, with no saddle on it."
