The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "A boy was born to me last night, and I named him after my father, Ibrahim."He then handed the child over to Umm Sayf, the wife of a blacksmith called Abu Sayf. He set out to visit the child, and I followed him. We reached Abu Sayf while he was blowing his bellows, and the house had filled with smoke. I hurried ahead of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "Abu Sayf, stop. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ has come."So he stopped. The Prophet ﷺ called for the child, embraced him, and said what Allah willed him to say.Anas said, "I saw the child taking his last breaths in the presence of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and the eyes of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ welled up with tears."He said, "The eye sheds tears and the heart grieves, but we say only what pleases our Lord. By Allah, Ibrahim, we are grieved by your loss."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: ولد لي الليلة غلام فسميته باسم أبي: إبراهيم ثم دفعه إلى أم سيف، امرأة قين، يقال له أبو سيف، فانطلق يأتيه و أتبعته، فانتهينا إلى أبي سيف، وهو ينفخ بكيره، قد امتلأ البيت دخانا، فأشرعت المشي بين يدي رسول الله ﷺ فقلت: يا أبا سيف، أمسك، جاء رسول الله ﷺ، فأمسك، فدعا النبي ﷺ بالصبي، فضمه إليه، وقال ما شاء الله أن يقول. فقال أنس: لقد رأيته وهو يكيد بنفسه بين يدي رسول الله ﷺ فدمعت عينا رسول الله ﷺ فقال: تدمع العين، ويحزن القلب، ولا نقول إلا ما يرضى ربنا، والله يا إبراهيم إنا بك لمحزونون.
Muslim narrated it in the Chapter on Virtues (2315) via Sulayman bin Mughira, from Thabit, from Anas, and he related it, with this being his wording. Bukhari narrated it in the Chapter on Funerals (1303) via Quraysh bin Hayan, from Thabit, from Anas, and he related something similar, but did not mention the story of the smoke. Then he said, "Musa narrated it, from Sulayman bin Mughira, from Thabit, from Anas, from the Prophet ﷺ."
