He witnessed the prayer over the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The people asked, "How shall we pray over him?"He replied, "Enter in groups, one after another."So they would enter through one door, pray over him, and leave through the other door. When he was placed in his grave, Mughira said, "Something of his feet remains that they have not set right."They said, "Then go in and set it right."He entered and reached in his hand, touching the Prophet's feet. Then he said, "Pour the earth over me."So they poured earth over him until it reached the middle of his shins, then he came out. He used to say, "I am the one among you who had the most recent contact with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."
Imam Ahmad narrated it (20766) from Bahz and Abu Kamil, who both said, "Hammad bin Salama narrated to us, from Abu Imran, meaning Juni, from Abu Aseeb or Abu Aseem," and he related it.Its isnad is sahih. Al-Hafiz mentioned it in Talkhis (2/124) and remained silent about it.Abu Aseeb, the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, is well known by his kunya. It is said his name was Ahmad, and it is said he was Safina, the freed slave of Umm Salama, but the more correct view is that he is someone else, as stated in Isabah (4/133).The hadith mentioned was cited by al-Hafiz in Isabah, in the entry on "Abu Aseem," from Baghawi and Hakim Abu Ahmad, via the route of Hammad bin Salama, and he said, "This is how Abu Muslim Kajji narrated it via the route of Hammad, and Ibn Manda narrated it in the entry on Abu Aseeb, where it appears with the letter ba." End of quote.I say, he failed to attribute it to Imam Ahmad. Then Baghawi expressed doubt about Abu Aseeb's companionship, but did not mention a reason for his doubt. Imam Ahmad assigned him a musnad, and narrated the hadith in his Musnad, and in the hadith that follows it, which is the hadith about the plague, he said, "Abu Aseeb, the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."
