Abu Bakr came in to see the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when he had died, then he came out. People asked him, "Has the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed away?"He answered, "Yes."So they knew it was as he said.Then it was asked, "Shall the funeral prayer be performed over him? And how shall it be performed?"Abu Bakr said, "They shall come group by group and pray."So they knew it was as he said.They asked, "Shall he be buried? And where?"He said, "Where Allah took his soul, for Allah has not taken his soul except in a blessed place."So they knew it was as he said.
دخل أبو بكر على رسول الله ﷺ حين مات، ثم خرج، فقيل له: توفي رسول الله ﷺ؟ فقال: نعم، فعلموا أنه كما قال، وقيل: ويصلى عليه، وكيف يصلى عليه؟ قال: يجيئون عصبا عصبا فيصلون، فعلموا أنه كما قال، فقالوا: هل يدفن؟ وأين؟ فقال: حيث قبض الله روحه، فإنه لم يقبض الله روحه إلا في مكان طيب، فعلموا أنه كما قال.
Bayhaqi (4/30) narrated it via Yunus bin Bukayr, from Salama bin Nubayt, from his father Nubayt bin Sharit al-Ashjai, from Salim bin Ubayd, and he related it. Tirmidhi narrated it in Shamail (379), Ibn Majah (1234), and Tabarani in Kabir (7/64), all of them through chains from Salama bin Nubayt, within a long account mentioned in its proper place, part of which has already passed in the book of prayer. Its chain of transmission is sahih, as Busiri said in Zawaid bin Majah.Ibn Abbas said, "When the funeral prayer was performed for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, the men were brought in and prayed over him without an imam, in successive groups, until they finished. Then the women were brought in and prayed over him. Then the children were brought in and prayed over him. Then the slaves were brought in and prayed over him in successive groups. No one led them in prayer over the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."Muhammad bin Ishaq narrated it, saying, "Husayn bin Abdullah bin Ubaydullah bin Abbas told me, from Ikrima, from Ibn Abbas," and he related it, and Husayn bin Abdullah is daif.
