The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave Abu Sufyan bin Harb, Safwan bin Umaya, Uyayna bin Hisn, and Aqra bin Habis one hundred camels each, but he gave Abbas bin Mirdas less than that.So Abbas bin Mirdas said, "Do you place my share and the share of Ubayd between Uyayna and Aqra? Neither Badr nor Habis surpassed Mirdas in any gathering, and I am no less than either of them, and whomever you lower today will not be raised."So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ completed his share to one hundred.
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Zakat (137:1060), from Muhammad bin Abu Umar Makki, who said, Sufyan told us, from Umar bin Saeed bin Masruq, from his father, from Abaya bin Rifa, from Rafi bin Khadij, who said, and he mentioned it. His saying, "my plunder," means "my spoils." His saying, "Ubayd," is the name of his horse. He also narrated it through another route, from Ibn Uyayna, in which it states that the Prophet ﷺ divided the spoils of Hunayn and gave Abu Sufyan bin Harb one hundred camels. He related the hadith in similar fashion and added that he also gave Alqama bin Alatha one hundred camels. The spoils of Hunayn were abundant. Ibn Saad gave details of these spoils, saying that the captives numbered six thousand, the camels twenty-four thousand, the sheep more than forty thousand, and there were four thousand ounces of silver. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ waited regarding the captives for their delegation to come to him, and he began with the wealth, dividing it. He gave those whose hearts needed winning over before anyone else. He gave Abu Sufyan bin Harb forty ounces of silver and one hundred camels. Abu Sufyan said, "My son Yazid." He said, "Give him forty ounces and one hundred camels." Abu Sufyan said, "My son Muawiya." He said, "Give him forty ounces and one hundred camels." He gave Hakeem bin Hizam one hundred camels, and when Hakeem asked him for another hundred, he gave it to him as well. He gave Nadr bin Harith bin Kalada one hundred camels. He gave Usayd bin Jariya Thaqafi one hundred camels. He gave Ala bin Haritha Thaqafi fifty camels. He gave Makhrama bin Nawfal fifty camels. He gave Harith bin Hisham one hundred camels. He gave Saeed bin Yarbu fifty camels. He gave Safwan bin Umaya one hundred camels. He gave Qays bin Adi one hundred camels. He gave Uthman bin Wahb fifty camels. He gave Suhayl bin Amr one hundred camels. He gave Huwaytib bin Abd Uzza one hundred camels. He gave Hisham bin Amr Amiri fifty camels. He gave Aqra bin Habis Tamimi one hundred camels. He gave Uyayna bin Hisn one hundred camels. He gave Malik bin Awf one hundred camels. He gave Abbas bin Mirdas forty camels, and when Abbas composed verses about this, he gave him one hundred camels, though it is also said fifty. All of this was given from the fifth, which is the most well established account with us.Then he ordered Zayd bin Thabit to count the spoils and the people, and he divided them among the people, so that each man's share was four camels and forty sheep. If a man had a horse, he took twelve camels and one hundred twenty sheep. If he had more than one horse, no extra share was given for it. Tabaqat (2/152–153)Ibn Budayl bin Warqa reported from his father that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered that the spoils and wealth, including the spoils of Hunayn, be held back until he arrived, and so they were held until he came. Bazzar narrated it in Kashf Astar (1838), through the route of Ibn Ishaq, from Ibn Abu Abla, from Ibn Budayl bin Warqa, and he mentioned it.These spoils were held at Jirana until the Prophet ﷺ returned from the siege of Taif. Ibn Ishaq said, the captives of Hunayn and their wealth were brought to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and Masud bin Amr Ghifari was in charge of the spoils. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered that the captives and wealth be taken to Jirana, and they were held there. Sirat bin Hisham (2/459)Then the delegation of Hawazin came to him at Jirana. With the Messenger of Allah ﷺ there were six thousand of the children and women of Hawazin, along with camels and sheep whose number could not be determined.
