I saw a wound on the hand of Ibn Abu Awfa. He said, "I received this blow fighting alongside the Prophet ﷺ on the day of Hunayn."I asked, "You were present at Hunayn?"He replied, "Before that as well."
رأيت بيد ابن أبي أوفى ضربة قال: ضربتها مع النبي ﷺ اليوم حنين، قلت: شهدت حنينا؟ قال: قبل ذلك.
Bukhari reported it in the Book of Military Expeditions (4314) from Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Numayr, who said, Yazid bin Harun narrated to us, Ismail informed us, saying, and then he related it. Imam Ahmad also narrated it (19131) from Yazid bin Harun at greater length, in which Abdullah bin Abu Awfa said, The Prophet ﷺ performed umrah. He circled the House, and we circled with him. He prayed behind the Station, and we prayed with him. Then he went out and circled between Safa and Marwa, and we were with him, shielding him from the people of Makkah, so that no one would throw anything at him or strike him with anything. He said, Then he prayed against the confederate tribes, saying, "O Allah, Revealer of the Book, swift in reckoning, defeater of the confederates, O Allah, defeat them and shake them."He said, I saw on his arm the mark of a blow, and I asked, "What is this?" He said, "I received it on the day of Hunayn." I said to him, "Were you present with him at Hunayn?" He said, "Yes, and before that as well."His statement, "and before that," means that he was present at Hunayn, and likewise at the battles that preceded Hunayn.
