I killed Abd al-Uzza bin Khatal while he was clinging to the covering of the Kaabah.
قتلت عبد العزى بن خطل، وهو متعلق بستر الكعبة.
Ahmad (19794) narrated it from Ismail, [who said], Shaddad bin Saeed narrated to me, he said, Jabir bin Amr Rasibi narrated to me, he said, I heard Abu Barza Aslami [narrate it], then he mentioned it.Ismail is Ibn Ulaya. Its chain of transmission is hasan because of Jabir bin Amr Abu Wazi Rasibi, about whom there is disagreement. Ahmad deemed him reliable, and Ibn Hibban mentioned him among the trustworthy narrators, while Ibn Main and Nasai criticized him. However, his hadith is hasan when it does not contradict [other narrations].But there is disagreement over the name of the one who killed Ibn Khatal. Waqidi held the view that it was Abu Barza Aslami, while Muhammad bin Ishaq stated definitively that Saeed bin Hurayth and Abu Barza Aslami jointly killed him. Some discussion of this has already been given in the Book of the Apostate.
