When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ arrived at Makkah and the people had settled, he set out until he came to the House. He circled it seven times on his mount, touching the corner with a Mihjan he held in his hand. When he had completed his circumambulation, he called for Uthman bin Talha and took the key of the Kaabah from him. It was opened for him, and he entered. Inside he found a wooden dove, which he broke with his hand and cast aside. Then he stood at the door of the Kaabah while the people had gathered before him in the mosque.
Ibn Ishaq narrated it, Sirah by Ibn Hisham (2/411-412). He said, "Muhammad bin Jafar bin Zubayr told me, from Ubaydullah bin Abdullah bin Abu Thawr, from Safiya bint Shayba," and he related it. Its chain is hasan due to Ibn Ishaq's explicit wording of transmission. Then Ibn Ishaq went on to mention the Prophet's ﷺ pardon of the people of Makkah, as will come later.
