When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered Mecca, Qays was leading his vanguard. Saad, his father, spoke to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ asking him to remove Qays from the position he held, fearing that he might act rashly, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ reassigned him from that post.

Bazzar narrated it in Kashf Astar (1819) from Muhammad bin Muthanna, who said, Muhammad bin Abdullah narrated to us, my father narrated to me, from Thumamah, from Anas, and he related it.Its chain is hasan because of Thumamah, who is Ibn Abdullah bin Anas bin Malik, whose narration is hasan. He is among the narrators of the Sahih. Haythami noted this in Majma (6/175), saying, "Its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih." Hafiz said in Fath (9/8), "Its chain meets the standard of Bukhari."The biographers mentioned that the banner was first in the hand of Saad bin Ubada, then it was taken from him and given to his son Qays, then it was taken from him at his father's request and given to Zubayr bin Awwam.
