Ibn Mughafal said, "I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the day of the Conquest, riding his she-camel and reciting Surah al-Fath," or "a portion of Surah al-Fath." He added, "And he would draw out his voice in melodious repetition while reciting it."Then Muawiya recited, imitating the recitation of Ibn Mughafal, and said, "Were it not that people would gather around you, I would have drawn out my voice just as Ibn Mughafal did, imitating the Prophet ﷺ."I asked Muawiya, "How did he draw out his voice?"He replied, "Three times."
رأيت رسول الله ﷺ يوم الفتح على ناقة له يقرأ سورة الفتح- أو من سورة الفتح- قال: فترجع فيها قال: ثم قرأ معاوية يحكي قراءة ابن مغفل وقال: لولا أن يجتمع الناس عليكم لرجعت كما رجع ابن مغفل يحكي النبي ﷺ فقلت لمعاوية: كيف كان ترجيعه؟ قال: ثلاث مرات.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Tawhid (7540), and Muslim in the Book of Travelers' Prayer (794:237), both through the route of Shubah, from Muawiya bin Qurra, from Abdullah bin Mughafal Muzani, who said, and then he mentioned it.
