I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "My intercession on the Day of Resurrection is for those of my ummah who committed major sins."
سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول: إن شفاعتي يوم القيامة لأهل الكبائر من أمتي.
Ibn Majah (4310) narrated it from Abdul-Rahman bin Ibrahim Dimashqi, who said, Walid bin Muslim narrated to us, who said, Zuhayr bin Muhammad narrated to us, from Jafar bin Muhammad, from his father, from Jabir, who said, then he narrated it.This is a sahih isnad. Walid bin Muslim, although he was a mudallis, explicitly stated "narrated to us." He was also corroborated, for Ibn Khuzayma narrated it in Tawhid (531), Ibn Hibban (6467), and Hakim (1/69), all of them via Amr bin Abu Salama, who said Zuhayr bin Muhammad narrated to us, with the same chain and the like of it.Hakim said, "Sahih according to the criterion of Muslim." He also said that Muhammad bin Thabit Bunani corroborated him, from Jafar.I say, Muhammad bin Thabit Bunani has been criticized by more than one scholar. Tirmidhi (2436) narrated from his route, as did Ibn Khuzayma in his book Tawhid (530), Hakim (1/69), and Ajurri in Sharia (778), all of them via Abu Dawud Tayalisi from him, from Jafar bin Muhammad with his isnad, in similar wording.Muhammad bin Ali, who is Abu Jafar, said, Jabir said to me, "O Muhammad, whoever is not among the people of major sins, what has he to do with intercession?!"Tirmidhi said, "This is a rare hadith from this route."I say, it is as he said, for it is rare from the route through which it was narrated, and it contains an objectionable addition that has not been corroborated. That is why Ibn Hibban included him in Majruhin, in the biography of Muhammad bin Thabit Bunani (925), even though he did not mention that addition. As for the first route, through which Ibn Khuzayma and Ibn Hibban narrated it, it is sahih.
