People used to come to the tree that they called the Tree of Ridwan and pray beside it. When this reached Umar bin Khattab, he warned them against doing so and ordered that the tree be cut down, so it was cut down.
كان الناس يأتون الشجرة التي يقولون لها شجرة الرضوان فيصلون عندها، قال: فبلغ ذلك عمر بن الخطاب فأوعدهم فيها، وأمر بقطعها فقطعت.
Ibn Saad narrated it in his Tabaqat (2/100), from Abdul-Wahhab bin Ata, who said, Abdullah bin Awn told us, from Nafi, and he mentioned it. Its chain of transmission is sahih. Hafiz also declared it sahih in Fath al-Bari (448/7).As for the statement of Saad bin Musayab, "The companions of Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, did not know it, yet you have come to know it," it contains denial and mockery. For Umar bin Khattab had ordered the tree to be cut down, so where is it now? As for the location of the tree, Jabir bin Abdullah used to know it precisely, but he went blind and so was unable to point it out.
