I went to insult Hassan in the presence of Ayesha, but she said, "Do not insult him, for he used to defend the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."Ayesha said, "Hassan asked the Prophet ﷺ for permission to lampoon the polytheists. The Prophet ﷺ said, 'But what about my lineage?' Hassan replied, 'I will draw you out from among them as a hair is drawn out from dough.'"Urwa said, "I had insulted Hassan because he was among those who spread the slander against her."
ذهبت أسب حسان عند عائشة، فقالت: لا تسبه، فإنه كان ينافع عن رسول الله ﷺ. وقالت عائشة: استأذن النبي ﷺ في هجاء المشركين قال: كيف بنسبي قال: لأسلنك منهم كما تسل الشعرة من العجين. وقال عروة: سببت حسان، وكان ممن كثر عليها.
Bukhari narrated it in Maghazi (4145) and Muslim in Fadail al-Sahabah (154:2487), both by way of Hisham bin Urwa, from his father, who said, and he mentioned it.His saying, "defending the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with poetry," means he was defending him by means of his poetry.
