Masruq reported,

We entered upon Ayesha رضي الله عنها, and Hassan bin Thabit was with her, reciting poetry to her. He recited verses of his own, saying:"A chaste and dignified woman, never suspected of any wrong, who rises hungry, never feeding on the flesh of the heedless."Ayesha said to him, "But you are not like that."Masruq said, I asked her, "Why do you allow him to come in to you, when Allah Most High has said, 'And the one who took the greater part in it, for him is a great punishment'[Nur 24:11]?"She replied, "And what punishment is more severe than blindness?"She added, "He used to defend," or she said, "exchange poetry on behalf of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."
