I wrote to Nafi asking him about issuing a call before battle. He wrote back to me, "That was only in the early days of Islam. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ launched a raid against Banu al-Mustaliq while they were unaware, with their livestock being watered at the well. He killed their fighting men, took their women and children captive, and on that day captured Juwayriyah, daughter of Harith. Abdullah bin Umar, who was part of that army, narrated this hadith to me."
كتبت إلى نافع أسأله عن الدعاء قبل القتال. قال: فكتب إلي: إنما كان ذلك في أول، الإسلام قد أغار رسول الله ﷺ على بني المصطلق وهم غارون، وأنعامهم تسقى على الماء، فقتل مقاتلهم وسبى سبيهم، وأصاب يومئذ جويرية ابنة الحارث. حدثني هذا الحديث عبد الله بن عمر، وكان في ذلك الجيش.
