A man reported,

The disbelievers of Quraysh wrote to Abdullah bin Ubayy bin Salul and to those among Aws and Khazraj who worshipped idols, at a time when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was in Madinah, before the battle of Badr. They said, "You have given shelter to our man, and you are the most numerous people of Madinah. We swear by Allah that you will either kill him or drive him out, or else we will march against you with all the Arabs behind us, come upon you in full force, kill your fighting men, and take your women for ourselves."When this reached Abdullah bin Ubayy and the idol worshippers with him, they exchanged messages, gathered together, and assembled to fight the Prophet ﷺ and his companions. When word of this reached the Prophet ﷺ, he went out to meet them while they were gathered and said, "The threat of Quraysh has certainly worked on you to the fullest. Quraysh could not plot against you with anything worse than what you now intend to do to yourselves. Here you are, about to kill your own sons and your own brothers."When they heard this from the Prophet ﷺ, they dispersed. News of this reached the disbelievers of Quraysh, and then the battle of Badr took place. After Badr, the disbelievers of Quraysh wrote to the Jews, "You are the people of weapons and fortresses. Either you fight our man, or we will do such and such to you, and nothing will stand between us and the anklets of your women."When their letter reached the Jews, Banu Nadir resolved on treachery and sent word to the Prophet ﷺ, "Come out to us with thirty of your companions, and thirty of our rabbis will come out, and we will meet at such and such a place, halfway between us, so that they may hear you. If they find you truthful and believe in you, then all of us will believe."So the Prophet ﷺ went out with thirty of his companions, and thirty rabbis of the Jews came out to him. When they reached an open stretch of ground, some of the Jews said to the others, "How will you get at him when he has thirty of his companions with him, every one of whom would love to die before he does?"So they sent word to him, "How can you and we come to any understanding when we are sixty men altogether? Come out with three of your companions, and three of our scholars will come out to you and hear you. If they believe in you, we will all believe in you and accept your truthfulness."The Prophet ﷺ went out with three of his companions, while they concealed daggers, intending to assassinate the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. But a well meaning woman of Banu Nadir sent word to her nephew, who was a Muslim of the Ansar, informing him of the treachery Banu Nadir intended against the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He hurried off until he caught up with the Prophet ﷺ and whispered their plan to him before the Prophet ﷺ reached them, so the Prophet ﷺ turned back. The next morning the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came against them with his battalions and laid siege to them. He said to them, "You will have no security with me except by a covenant you make with me." They refused to give him any covenant, so he and the Muslims fought them that day.The following morning he went with cavalry and battalions against Banu Qurayzah, leaving Banu Nadir, and called on them to make a covenant with him. They made the covenant, so he left them and went the next morning against Banu Nadir with his battalions. He fought them until they agreed to be exiled, on the terms that they could take whatever their camels could carry, apart from weapons. So Banu Nadir came and loaded onto their camels whatever they could of their goods, and even the doors of their houses and their timber. They would wreck their own houses and pull them down and carry off whatever timber suited them. That exile of theirs was the first gathering of people to Sham. Banu Nadir were one of the tribes of the Children of Israil, and no exile had befallen them since Allah decreed exile upon the Children of Israil. That is why the Messenger of Allah ﷺ exiled them. Had it not been for the exile Allah had decreed for them, he would have punished them in this world as Banu Qurayzah were punished. So Allah revealed, "Whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth glorifies Allah, and He is the Mighty, the Wise" [Hashr 59:1], down to His words, "and Allah has power over all things" [Hashr 59:6].The palm trees of Banu Nadir belonged to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ alone. Allah gave them to him and singled him out for them, saying, "And whatever Allah restored to His Messenger from them, you did not spur any horse or camel toward it" [Hashr 59:6], meaning it was taken without fighting. The Prophet ﷺ gave most of it to the Emigrants and divided it among them, along with two men of the Ansar who were in need. He allotted nothing to any of the Ansar besides those two. What remained of it was the charitable endowment of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, held in the hands of the children of Fatimah.
