Jafar bin Amr reported,

I went out with Ubaydullah bin Adi bin Khiyar, and when we arrived at Hims, Ubaydullah bin Adi said to me, "Would you like to visit Wahshi and ask him about the killing of Hamza?"I said, "Yes."Wahshi lived in Hims, so we asked about him and were told, "There he is, in the shade of his palace, looking like a bloated waterskin."We came until we stood near him and greeted him with peace, and he returned the greeting. Ubaydullah had wrapped his turban around his face so that Wahshi could see only his eyes and feet.Ubaydullah said, "Wahshi, do you recognize me?"He looked at him, then said, "No, by Allah. But I know that Adi bin Khiyar married a woman named Umm Qital bint Abu al-Is, and she bore him a boy in Mecca. I used to seek a wet nurse for him, and I once carried that boy along with his mother and handed him over to her. It is as if I am now looking at your very feet."Then Ubaydullah uncovered his face and said, "Will you not tell us about the killing of Hamza?"He said, "Yes. Hamza killed Tuayma bin Adi bin Khiyar at Badr, so my master Jubayr bin Mutim said to me, 'If you kill Hamza in revenge for my uncle, you are free.'When the people went out in the year of Aynayn (Aynayn is a hill opposite Uhud, with a valley between them), I went out with the people to the battle. When they arrayed themselves for combat, Sibaa came forward and said, 'Is there anyone for single combat?'Hamza bin Abdul-Muttalib went out to face him and said, 'Sibaa, son of Umm Anmar, the female circumciser, do you defy Allah and His Messenger ﷺ?' Then he charged at him, and Sibaa was gone like yesterday's passing day.I had hidden myself in wait for Hamza beneath a rock. When he came near me, I hurled my javelin at him, planting it in his lower abdomen until it came out between his hips. That was the end of him. When the people returned, I returned with them, and I stayed in Mecca until Islam spread there. Then I went out to Taif, and they sent envoys to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I was told that envoys are not to be harmed, so I went out with them until I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.When he saw me, he said, 'Are you Wahshi?'I said, 'Yes.'He said, 'Are you the one who killed Hamza?'I said, 'It happened as you have been told.'He said, 'Can you keep your face hidden from me?'So I left. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed away and Musaylima the Liar came forth, I said to myself, 'I will go out against Musaylima. Perhaps I will kill him and thereby make up for Hamza.'So I went out with the people, and what happened to him happened. Then I saw a man standing in a breach in a wall, looking like a dust-colored camel with disheveled hair. I hurled my javelin at him, planting it between his breasts until it came out between his shoulders. Then a man from the Ansar leapt at him and struck him on the head with a sword."Abdullah bin Fadl said, Sulayman bin Yasar told me that he heard Abdullah bin Umar say, "A slave girl on the roof of a house cried out, 'Alas, Commander of the Believers has been killed by the black slave!'"
