Abu Hurairah reported,

He used to say, "Tell me about a man who entered Paradise without ever having performed a single prayer." When people did not know who he was, they would ask, "Who is he?" He would reply, "The Usayrim of Banu Abd al-Ashhal, Amr bin Thabit bin Waqsh."Husayn said, I asked Mahmud bin Labeed, "What was the story of Usayrim?"He replied, "He had been refusing Islam, holding out against his people. On the day of Uhud, when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ set out to Uhud, Islam suddenly appealed to him, so he embraced it. He took up his sword, set off, and reached the army, blending into the ranks of the people. He fought until his wounds brought him down. While Some men of Banu Abd al-Ashhal were searching the battlefield for their slain, they came upon him and said, 'This is Usayrim! What brought him here? We left him still rejecting this faith. Ask him what brought him.'They said, 'What brought you here, Amr? Was it loyalty to your people, or a desire for Islam?'He answered, 'Rather, a desire for Islam. I believed in Allah and His Messenger and Aslam. Then I took my sword and set out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and fought until I was struck down by what struck me.'He did not linger long before he died in their hands. They mentioned him to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who said, 'He is among the people of Paradise.'"
