Food was brought to him while he was fasting, and he said, "Musab bin Umayr was killed, and he was better than me. He was shrouded in a single cloak. If his head was covered, his feet showed, and if his feet were covered, his head showed."I think he said, "And Hamza was killed, and he was better than me. Then so much of this world was spread out before us," or he said, "we have been given so much of this world, that we fear our good deeds have been hastened to us in advance."Then he began to weep until he left the food untouched.
أنه أتي بطعام- وكان صائما- فقال: قتل مصعب بن عمير وهو خير مني، كفن في بردة، إن غطي رأسه بدت رجلاه، وإن غطي رجلاه بدا رأسه- وأراه قال: وقتل حمزة وهو خير مني- ثم بسط لنا من الدنيا ما بسط- أو قال: أعطينا من الدنيا ما أعطينا- وقد خشينا أن تكون حسناتنا عجلت لنا، ثم جعل يبكي حتى ترك الطعام.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Military Expeditions (4045) from Abdan (who is Abdullah bin Uthman Marwazi), who said, our teacher Abdullah (who is Ibn Mubarak) narrated to us, from Saad bin Ibrahim (who is Ibn Abdul-Rahman bin Awf), from his father Ibrahim, that Abdul-Rahman bin Awf was brought food, and he mentioned the hadith.His saying, "and he is better than me," he said that out of humility.
