Abu Talha said, "Drowsiness overcame us while we were in our battle ranks on the day of Uhud." He related that he was among those whom sleep overtook that day. He said, "My sword kept falling from my hand and I would pick it up, then it would fall again and I would pick it up. As for the other group, the hypocrites, they had no concern except for themselves. They were the most cowardly of people, the most terrified, and the most prone to abandoning the truth."
أن أبا طلحة: قال غشينا ونحن في مصافنا يوم أحد، حدث أنه كان فيمن غشيه النعاس يومئذ، قال: فجعل سيفي يسقط من يدي وآخذه، ويسقط من يدي وآخذه والطائفة الأخرى المنافقون ليس لهم هم إلا أنفسهم، أجبن قوم وأرعبه وأخذله للحق.
Tirmidhi (3008) narrated it from Yusuf bin Hammad, who said, Abdul-Ala bin Abdul-Ala told us, from Saeed, from Qatada, from Anas, and he mentioned it. Tirmidhi said, hasan sahih.As for His saying, "while another group was anxious only about themselves" [Al Imran 3:154], it means that drowsiness did not overcome them because of their anxiety, distress, and fear.Tirmidhi (3007m) also said, Abd bin Humayd told us, Rawh bin Ubada told us, from Hammad bin Salama, from Hisham bin Urwa, from his father, from Zubayr, similarly. And he said, hasan sahih, meaning similar to the hadith of Abu Talha. He probably means similar in meaning, for the hadith of Zubayr is the one that follows.
