I saw myself with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the day of Uhud, when fear pressed hard upon us and Allah sent sleep over us, so that there was not one of us whose chin was not resting on his chest. By Allah, I could hear, as though in a dream, the words of Mutib bin Qushayr, "Had we had any say in the matter, we would not have been killed here." I memorized what he said, and Allah revealed concerning that, "Then, after distress, He sent down upon you security, a drowsiness" up to His words "we would not have been killed here", which was the statement of Mutib bin Qushayr, and He said, "Say, even if you had been in your houses" up to "and Allah is Knowing of what lies within the breasts" [Al Imran 3:154].

Ishaq bin Rahawayh narrated it in his Musnad from Yahya bin Adam, he said, Ibn Abu Zaida narrated to us, from Muhammad bin Ishaq, from Yahya bin Abbad, from his father, from Abdullah bin Zubayr, from his father, and he mentioned it. Matalib Aliyah (4260). Its isnad is hasan because of Muhammad bin Ishaq, and he has stated his source explicitly in the earlier chains, so perhaps here the narrator abridged it and said "from," for he also narrated it by another route from Muhammad bin Ishaq, saying in it, Yahya bin Abbad narrated to me, from his father, from Abdullah bin Zubayr, from Zubayr bin Awwam, who said, "We set out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ climbing up in Uhud..." and he mentioned the hadith. Matalib Aliyah (4260). Abu Naeem likewise narrated it in ad-Dalail (2/626) by another route from Muhammad bin Ishaq, stating explicitly that he had heard it.
