Anas bin Malik reported,

We were with Umar between Mecca and Medina, and we tried to sight the new moon. I was a man of sharp eyesight, so I saw it, while no one else claimed to have seen it but me.I kept saying to Umar, "Do you not see it?" but he could not see it.Umar said, "I will see it while I am lying on my bed."Then he began to tell us about the people of Badr. He said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to show us the day before the battle the very spots where the people of Badr would fall. He would say, 'This is where so-and-so will fall tomorrow, Allah willing.'"Umar continued, "By the One who sent him with the truth, they did not miss the boundaries that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had marked out. They were then thrown into a well, one on top of another, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went until he reached them and said, 'So-and-so, son of so-and-so, and so-and-so, son of so-and-so, have you found what Allah and His Messenger promised you to be true? For I have indeed found what Allah promised me to be true.'"Umar said, "Messenger of Allah, how can you address bodies that have no souls in them?"He replied, "You are not more capable of hearing what I say than they are, except that they cannot answer me back."
