The Messenger of Allah ﷺ accepted ransom for the captives of Badr. The ransom for each man among them was four thousand. Uqba bin Abu Muayt was killed before being ransomed. Ali bin Abu Talib stood up and executed him.Uqba asked, "Who will care for my young children, Messenger of Allah?"He replied, "The Fire."

Abdul-Razzaq narrated it (9394), and from his route Tabarani (11/406-407) narrated it from Mamar, from Qatada. He said, Uthman Jazari informed me, from Miqsam, from Ibn Abbas, and he mentioned it. Its isnad is sahih. The meaning of the Prophet's ﷺ statement, "the Fire," is that the Fire is for you, but as for the child, leave them alone, for Allah is their guardian. This is because this Uqba bin Abu Muayt was the wretch who threw the afterbirth of a slaughtered camel onto the back of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was praying at the House of Allah. It has also been said that "the Fire" refers to that particular time, because Uqba bin Muayt and his children were in a state of disbelief at that time, so when his children later became Muslims, they were excluded from this threat, in which case Masruq's statement would be misplaced.I say, none of the captives were executed except Uqba bin Abu Muayt and Nadr bin Harith, while Tuayma bin Adi was killed in the battle itself. This is what Abu Ubayd said in Amwal (171). As for what has been narrated about Tuayma bin Adi being executed as a captive, all of it is daif because it is transmitted through mursal chains.
