The Messenger of Allah ﷺ raised his hands on the day of Badr and said, "My Lord, if You destroy this small band, You will never be worshipped on earth again."Jibreel said to him, "Take a handful of dust."So he took a handful of dust and threw it in their faces, and there was not a single one of the polytheists whose eyes, nostrils, and mouth were not struck by some of that dust, and they turned and fled.
Tabari related it in his Tafsir (11/86), and Ibn Abu Hatim related it in his Tafsir (5/1673), both of them by way of Abu Salih, who said, Muawiya bin Salih narrated to me, from Ali bin Abu Talha, from Ibn Abbas, and he mentioned it.Its chain of transmission is hasan because of Abu Salih, who is Abdullah bin Salih, the scribe of Layth. There is disagreement about him, but his hadith is hasan when he does not err.
