The Messenger of Allah ﷺ dozed off briefly in the shelter, then awoke and said, "Rejoice, Abu Bakr! This is Jibreel, wrapped in his turban, holding the reins of his horse and leading it through clouds of dust. The aid of Allah and His promise have come to you."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then gave the command, took a handful of pebbles in his hand, and went out. He faced the enemy and said, "May the faces be disfigured!" Then he flung the pebbles at them and said to his companions, "Charge!" It was nothing but a rout. Allah killed those of their chiefs who were killed, and those of them who were taken captive were taken captive.
خفق رسول الله ﷺ خفقة في العريش، ثم انتبه فقال: أبشر يا أبا بكر هذا جبريل معتجر بعمامته، آخذ بعنان فرسه يقوده على ثناياه النقع، أتاك نصر الله وعدته. وأمر رسول الله ﷺ، فأخذ كفا من الحصى بيده، ثم خرج، فاستقبل القوم فقال: شاهت الوجوه ثم نفحهم بها، ثم قال لأصحابه: احملوا فلم تكن إلا الهزيمة. فقتل الله من قتل من صناديد يهم، وأسر من أسر منهم.

Ibn Ishaq narrated it. He said, Zuhri narrated to me, from Abdullah bin Thalaba bin Sughayr, and he mentioned it. Al-Umawi narrated it from him in his Maghazi, as found in Bidayah wan-Nihayah (5/126), and Ibn Hisham mentioned it in his Sirah (1/626-627) without a chain of transmission. This is part of the hadith about Abu Jahl seeking aid, found with Imam Ahmad (23661), except that he did not mention this part.Abdullah bin Thalaba was a young companion, and his report lacks a complete chain back to the source, and such a report from a companion is accepted by the majority of scholars.On this subject there is also what was narrated from Abu Dawud Mazini, who had been present at Badr, who said, "I was pursuing a man from the polytheists to strike him, when his head fell before my sword reached him. So I knew that someone other than me had killed him."Imam Ahmad narrated it (23778) from Yazid, who said, Muhammad bin Ishaq informed us, from his father, who said, Abu Dawud Mazini said, and he mentioned it. This is also found with Ibn Hisham in his Sirah (1/633), where it states, Ibn Ishaq said, My father Ishaq bin Yasar narrated to me, from men of Banu Mazin bin al-Najjar, from Abu Dawud Mazini, and he mentioned it.From this it becomes clear that between Ishaq bin Yasar and Abu Dawud Mazini there are men who are unknown.
