The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me and to Abu Bakr on the day of Badr, "With one of you is Jibreel, and with the other is Mikail, and Israfeel is a mighty angel who witnesses the battle," or "who takes part in the battle."
قال لي رسول الله ﷺ يوم بدر ولأبي بكر: مع أحدكما جبريل، ومع الآخر ميكائيل، وإسرافيل ملك عظيم يشهد القتال أو يكون في القتال.
Ahmad (1257), Abu Yaala (340), and Bazzar in his Musnad (729) all narrated it through various chains from Misar bin Kidam, from Abu Awn Thaqafi, from Abu Salih Hanafi, from Ali bin Abu Talib, who related it. Hakim graded it sahih (3/134), and its chain is sahih. Hakim said, "Sahih chain," and Dhahabi said it meets the criteria of Muslim. Daraqutni mentioned it in his Ilal (4/195) and noted the disagreement over Masaar, affirming that the correct version is the one narrated by Masaar's companions from Abu Awn Thaqafi, from Abu Salih Hanafi, from Ali.
