A man asked Bara, while I was listening, "Did Ali witness Badr?"He replied, "He fought in single combat and wore two coats of mail."
سأل رجل البراء وأنا أسمع قال: أشهد علي بدرا؟ قال: بارز وظاهر.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Military Expeditions (3970) from Ahmad bin Saeed Abu Abdullah, he said, Ishaq bin Mansur told us, Ibrahim bin Yusuf (who is the son of Abu Ishaq Sabi) told us, from his father, from Abu Ishaq, who said, and then he mentioned it.Regarding his statement in the answer, "he engaged in single combat and wore double armor," there is an ellipsis here, its implied meaning being, he said, "Yes, he was present, for he engaged in single combat in it and wore double armor," meaning he wore one coat of mail over another.
