"I will be the first to kneel before the Most Merciful for judgment on the Day of Resurrection."Qays bin Abbad said, "Concerning them was revealed the verse 'These are two adversaries who have disputed concerning their Lord' [Hajj 22:19]. They are the ones who fought in single combat on the day of Badr, Hamza, Ali, and Ubayda, or Abu Ubayda bin Harith, against Shayba bin Rabia, Utba, and Walid bin Utba."
أنا أول من يجثو بين يدي الرحمن للخصومة يوم القيامة. وقال قيس بن عباد: وفيهم أنزلت{هذان خصمان اختصموا في ربهم} [ الحج: ١٩] قال: هم الذين تبارزوا يوم بدر: حمزة، وعلي، وعبيدة أو أبو عبيدة بن الحارث، وشيبة بن ربيعة، وعتبة، والوليد بن عتبة.
Bukhari narrated it in al-Maghazi (3965) from Muhammad bin Abdullah Raqashi, who said, Mutamir (that is, Ibn Sulayman) narrated to us, he said, I heard my father (that is, Sulayman Taymi) say, Abu Majliz (that is, Lahiq bin Humayd) narrated to us from Qays bin Abbad, from Ali, and he related it.His statement, "yajthu" with the letter jim and the letter tha, means he kneels down on his knees while disputing. What is meant by this being "the first" is that it is restricted to those who fought in this ummah, because the duel mentioned was the first duel that took place in Islam.
