Imam Ahmad narrated it (7714) from Abdul-Razzaq, who said, Mamar told us, from Zuhri, who said, Qasim bin Muhammad told me, Abu Hurairah and Kaab once met, and Abu Hurairah began telling Kaab hadiths from the Prophet ﷺ, while Kaab told Abu Hurairah accounts from the scriptures. Abu Hurairah said, "The Prophet ﷺ said..." and so on.Kaab is Ibn Matii Himyari from Yemen, known as Kaab Ahbar. He was one of the scholars of the Jews, and he lived during the time of the Prophet ﷺ, but he embraced Islam during the caliphate of Abu Bakr Siddiq. He came to Madinah in the days of Umar bin Khattab, and he used to relate accounts from the traditions of Banu Israil, which led to a proliferation of Israelite narrations in the stories of the Quran. For this reason, Umar bin Khattab warned him against the excessive spread of these narrations and said to him, "Either you give up these narrations, or I will send you off to the land of the monkeys." Abu Zura Dimashqi narrated this in his Tarikh (1/544). Kaab then set out for Sham, and he died during the caliphate of Uthman, having passed the age of one hundred, may Allah have mercy on him.
