The Prophet ﷺ came to stay with him. The Prophet ﷺ settled on the lower floor, while Abu Ayub stayed on the upper floor.One night Abu Ayub woke up and said, "We are walking above the head of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." So they moved aside and spent the night in a corner.Then he spoke to the Prophet ﷺ about it.The Prophet ﷺ said, "The lower floor is more convenient."Abu Ayub replied, "I will not be on a roof while you are beneath it."So the Prophet ﷺ moved to the upper floor, and Abu Ayub took the lower floor.Abu Ayub used to prepare food for the Prophet ﷺ, and when it was brought back to him, he would ask where the Prophet's fingers had touched it, and he would eat from that very spot.Once he prepared a meal for him containing garlic. When the dish was returned, he asked where the Prophet's ﷺ fingers had been, and he was told that the Prophet had not eaten any of it. Alarmed, he hurried up to him and asked, "Is it forbidden?"The Prophet ﷺ replied, "No, but I dislike it."Abu Ayub said, "Then I dislike what you dislike," or "what you have disliked."He said, the Prophet ﷺ used to receive revelation.
أن النبي ﷺ نزل عليه. فنزل النبي ﷺ في السفل، وأبو أيوب في العلو، قال: فانتبه أبو أيوب ليلة، فقال: نمشي فوق رأس رسول الله ﷺ فتنحوا فباتوا في جانب ثم قال للنبي ﷺ فقال النبي ﷺ: السفل أرفق فقال: لا أعلو سقيفة أنت تحتها، فتحول النبي ﷺ في العلو، وأبو أيوب في السفل. فكان يصنع للنبي ﷺ طعاما، فإذا جيء به إليه سأل عن موضع أصابعه، فيتتبع موضع أصابعه، فصنع له طعاما فيه ثوم، فلما رد إليه سأل عن موضع أصابع النبي ﷺ فقيل له: لم يأكل، ففزع وصعد إليه فقال: أحرام هو؟ فقال النبي ﷺ: لا، ولكن أكرهه قال: فإني أكره ما تكره أو ما كرهت قال وكان النبي ﷺ يؤتى بالوحي.
