The first to arrive among us were Musab bin Umayr and Ibn Umm Maktum, and they used to teach the people the Quran. Then Bilal, Saad, and Ammar bin Yasir arrived. After that, Umar bin Khattab arrived along with twenty of the Prophet's ﷺ companions. Then the Prophet ﷺ himself arrived. I never saw the people of Medina rejoice over anything as much as they rejoiced over the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, to the point that even the slave-girls were exclaiming, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ has arrived!"
أول من قدم علينا مصعب بن عمير، وابن أم مكتوم، وكانوا يقرئون الناس، فقدم بلال وسعد وعمار بن ياسر، ثم قدم عمر بن الخطاب في عشرين من أصحاب النبي ﷺ ثم قدم النبي ﷺ، فما رأيت أهل المدينة فرحوا بشيء فرحهم برسول ﷺ حتى جعل الإماء يقلن: قدم رسول الله ﷺ.
Bukhari narrated it in the Chapter on Virtues (3925), from Muhammad bin Bashshar, who said, Ghundar narrated to us, Shubah narrated to us, from Abu Ishaq, who said, I heard Bara bin Azib narrate it.In the version of Abdullah bin Raja, it is said, "The people came out into the streets and up onto the rooftops when he arrived in Madinah, while the boys and servants were saying, 'Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah, has come. Allah is greatest. Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah, has come.'"Bayhaqi related in Dalail (2/508), through the route of Ishaq bin Abu Talha, from Anas, "Young girls from Banu Najjar came out beating tambourines, saying, 'We are girls from Banu Najjar, How wonderful a neighbor is Muhammad.'" This chain includes Ibrahim Sirma, who is daif, and Muhammad bin Sulayman, who is unknown.Abu Saeed related it in Sharaf Mustafa, and we have related it in Fawaid Khilai, through the route of Ubaydullah bin Ayesha, with a broken chain, that when the Prophet ﷺ entered Madinah, the young girls began saying, "The full moon has risen upon us From the passes of Wada And thanks became due upon us As long as anyone calls upon Allah."Bayhaqi also related it through this same route in Dalail (2/506–507). Ibn Hajar said, "This chain is missing two consecutive narrators." This perhaps occurred when he returned from the expedition of Tabuk. Fath al-Bari (7/261–262).Anas bin Malik said, "I used to run along with the boys whenever they said, 'Muhammad has come,' and we would set off but see nothing, until he and his companion came into view. About five hundred of the Ansar came out to meet him and said, 'Go forth, safe and obeyed.'" Ibn Hajar mentioned this in Fath al-Bari (7/251) and attributed it to Bukhari in Tarikh Saghir.
