Anas bin Malik reported,

The Prophet ﷺ arrived at Medina with Abu Bakr riding behind him. Abu Bakr was an older man who was recognized, while the Prophet of Allah ﷺ was a young man who was not recognized.A man would meet Abu Bakr and ask, "Abu Bakr, who is this man in front of you?"Abu Bakr would reply, "This man guides me along the way."The questioner would assume he meant the road, but he actually meant the path of goodness.Abu Bakr turned around and saw a horseman who had caught up with them. He said, "Messenger of Allah, a horseman has caught up with us."The Prophet of Allah ﷺ turned and said, "O Allah, throw him down."The horse threw him, then stood up neighing. The man said, "Prophet of Allah, command me as you wish."He said, "Stay where you are, and do not let anyone catch up with us."So at the start of the day he had been striving against the Prophet of Allah ﷺ, and by the end of the day he was an armed guard for him.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stopped at the edge of the Harrah and sent word to the Ansar. They came to the Prophet of Allah ﷺ and greeted them both, saying, "Mount, both safe and obeyed."The Prophet of Allah ﷺ and Abu Bakr mounted, and the Ansar surrounded them with weapons. Word spread in Medina, "The Prophet of Allah has come, the Prophet of Allah ﷺ has come." People stretched their necks to look, saying, "The Prophet of Allah has come, the Prophet of Allah ﷺ has come."He continued on until he stopped beside the house of Abu Ayub. While Abu Ayub was talking to his family, Abdullah bin Salam heard about the Prophet's arrival. He was in a date grove belonging to his family, picking dates for them. He hurried to put down what he was picking, and came still carrying it. He listened to the Prophet of Allah ﷺ, then returned to his family.The Prophet of Allah ﷺ asked, "Which of our family's houses is closest?"Abu Ayub said, "Mine, Prophet of Allah. This is my house and this is my door."He said, "Go and prepare a place for us to rest."He said, "Both of you go, with Allah's blessing."When the Prophet of Allah ﷺ arrived, Abdullah bin Salam came and said, "I bear witness that you are the Messenger of Allah and that you have come with the truth. The Jews know that I am their chief and the son of their chief, the most learned among them and the son of their most learned. Call them and ask them about me before they learn that I have accepted Islam, for if they learn I have become Muslim, they will say things about me that are not true."The Prophet of Allah ﷺ sent for them, and they came in to him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to them, "Company of Jews, woe to you, fear Allah. By Allah, besides whom there is no god, you certainly know that I am truly the Messenger of Allah and that I have come to you with the truth. So accept Islam."They said, "We do not know that."They said this to the Prophet ﷺ three times.He asked, "What kind of man among you is Abdullah bin Salam?"They said, "He is our chief and the son of our chief, our most learned and the son of our most learned."He asked, "What if he has accepted Islam?"They said, "Allah forbid, he would never accept Islam."He asked again, "What if he has accepted Islam?"They said, "Allah forbid, he would never accept Islam."He asked a third time, "What if he has accepted Islam?"They said, "Allah forbid, he would never accept Islam."He said, "Ibn Salam, come out to them."He came out and said, "Company of Jews, fear Allah. By Allah, besides whom there is no god, you certainly know that he is the Messenger of Allah and that he has come with the truth."They said, "You have lied."So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent them out.

عن أنس بن مالك قال

أقبل النبي ﷺ إلى المدينة وهو مردف أبا بكر، وأبو بكر شيخ يعرف، ونبي الله ﷺ شاب لا يعرف، قال: فيلقى الرجل أبا بكر فيقول: يا أبا بكر، من هذا الرجل الذي بين يديك؟ فيقول: هذا الرجل يهديني السبيل، قال: فيحسب الحاسب أنه إنما يعني الطريق، وإنما يعني سبيل الخير، فالتفت أبو بكر فإذا هو بفارس قد لحقهم، فقال: يا رسول الله، هذا فارس قد لحق بنا، فالتفت نبي الله ﷺ فقال: اللهم اصرعه فصرعه الفرس، ثم قامت تحمحم، فقال: يا نبي الله، مرني مرني بما شئت قال: قف مكانك، ولا تتركن أحدا يلحق بنا قال: فكان أول النهار جاهدا على نبي الله ﷺ، وكان آخر النهار مسلحة له، فنزل رسول الله ﷺ جانب الحرة ثم بعث إلى الأنصار فجاؤوا إلى نبي الله ﷺ فسلموا عليهما وقالوا: اركبا آمنين مطاعين. فركب نبي الله ﷺ وأبو بكر، وحفوا دونهما بالسلاح، فقيل في المدينة: جاء نبي الله، جاء نبي الله ﷺ، فاستشر فوا ينظرون ويقولون: جاء نبي الله، جاء نبي الله ﷺ فأقبل يسير حتى نزل جانب دار أبي أيوب، فإنه ليحدث أهله إذ سمع به عبد الله بن سلام، وهو في نخل لأهله يخترف لهم، فعجل أن يضع الذي يخترف لهم فيها، فجاء وهي معه، فسمع من نبي الله ﷺ، ثم رجع إلى أهله، فقال: نبي الله ﷺ: أي بيوت أهلنا أقرب؟ فقال أبو أيوب: أنا يا نبي الله هذه داري وهذا بأبي، قال: فانطلق فهيئ لنا مقيلا، قال: قوما على بركة الله. فلما جاء نبي الله ﷺ جاء عبد الله بن سلام فقال: أشهد أنك رسول الله، وإنك جئت بحق، وقد علمت يهود أني سيدهم وابن سيدهم، وأعلمهم وابن أعلمهم، فادعهم فاسألهم عني قبل أن يعلموا أني قد أسلمت، فإنهم إن يعلموا أني قد أسلمت قالوا في. ما ليس في فأرسل نبي الله ﷺ فأقبلوا فدخلوا عليه، فقال لهم رسول الله ﷺ: يا معشر اليهود، ويلكم اتقوا الله، فوالله الذي لا إله إلا هو، إنكم لتعلمون أني رسول الله حقا، وأني جئتكم بحق فأسلموا. فقالوا: ما نعلمه، قالوا للنبي ﷺ قالها ثلاث مرارا. قال: فأي رجل فيكم عبد الله بن سلام قالوا: ذاك سيدنا وابن سيدنا، وأعلمنا وابن أعلمنا، قال: أفرأيتم إن أسلم قالوا: حاشا الله ما كا ليسلم قال: أفرأيتم إن أسلم قالوا: حاشا الله ما كان ليسلم، قال: أفرأيتم إن أسلم قالوا: حاشا الله ما كان ليسلم قال: يا ابن سلام اخرج عليهم فخرج فقال: يا معشر اليهود اتقوا الله، فوالله الذي لا إله إلا هو، إنكم لتعلمون أنه رسول الله، وأنه جاء بحق فقالوا: كذبت، فأخرجهم رسول الله ﷺ.
