An Arabi asked, "Messenger of Allah, what do you say about fasting on Mondays?"He replied, "That is the day on which I was born and the day on which revelation came down to me."
إن أعرابيا قال: يا رسول الله: ما تقول في صوم يوم الإثنين؟ فقال: ذاك يوم ولدت فيه، وأنزل علي فيه.
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Fasting (1162: 198), from Zuhayr bin Harb, who said, Abdul-Rahman bin Mahdi narrated to us, who said, Mahdi bin Maymun narrated to us, from Ghaylan, from Abdullah bin Mabad Zimmani, from Abu Qatada Ansari, and he mentioned it.Something of similar meaning was reported from Ibn Abbas, who said, "Your Prophet was born on a Monday." Ahmad narrated it (2506) from Musa bin Dawud, who said, Ibn Lahia narrated to us, from Khalid bin Abu Imran, from Hanash Sanani, from Ibn Abbas, and its wording is, "The Prophet was born on a Monday, he was commissioned as a prophet on a Monday, he set out migrating from Makkah to Madinah on a Monday, he arrived in Madinah on a Monday, he died on a Monday, and the Black Stone was raised on a Monday."Its chain of transmission is daif because of Ibn Lahia, for he had poor memory, and there is well-known criticism of him.
