The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I will arrive at the Pool before you, and I will surely contend on behalf of any of you who is taken from me." In another narration, "I will surely struggle against anyone who tries to take any of you from me at the Pool. I will say, 'They are from my companions.' It will be said, 'You do not know what they introduced after you.'"Abu Darda said, "Messenger of Allah, pray to Allah that He not make me one of them."He replied, "You are not one of them."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: أنا فرطكم على الحوض، فلأعرفن ما نوزعت في أحد منكم. وفي رواية: لألفين ما نوزعت أحدا منكم على الحوض. فأقول أنا: من أصحابي. فيقال: إنك لا تدري ما أحدثوا بعدك. قال أبو الدرداء: يا رسول الله ادع الله أن لا يجعلني منهم. قال: لست منهم.
Ibn Abu Asim narrated it in Sunnah (737, 767) from Hisham bin Ammar, who said, "Yahya bin Hamza narrated to us, Yazid bin Abu Maryam narrated to us, that Abu Ubaydullah told him, from Abu Darda," and he related it.He also narrated it (768) through another route, from Amr bin Uthman, who said, "My father narrated to us, Muhammad bin Muhajir narrated to us," who said, "I heard Yazid bin Abu Maryam narrating from Abu Ubaydullah, from Abu Darda," and he related it. He abridged it in some places.Its chain is hasan because of Yazid bin Abu Maryam, for his hadith is hasan, except that "Abu Ubaydullah" was corrupted into "Abu Abdullah," into "Abu Ubayda," and into "Abu Ubayd." The correct form is that he is Abu Ubaydullah Muslim bin Mishkam, as Ibn Abu Asim named him in the first place, and he was a scribe for Abu Darda, one of the narrators found in the Sunan collections, and he is trustworthy.Tabarani narrated it with the second wording in Awsat (399). Haythami said in Majma (10/365), "Tabarani narrated it with two chains, and the men of one of them are the men of sahih, except for Abu Abdullah" (so it appears, though the correct form is Ubaydullah) "al-Ashari, who is trustworthy."
