Abdullah bin Abbas reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited this verse while his companions were with him, "People, be mindful of your Lord. The convulsion of the Hour is a tremendous thing" [Hajj 22:1] to the end of the verse. Then he asked, "Do you know what day that is?"They said, "Allah and His Messenger know best."He said, "That is the day when Allah will say to Adam, 'Adam, rise and send forth the contingent for the Fire.'Adam will ask, 'My Lord, how many out of how many?'Allah will say, 'Out of every thousand, nine hundred and ninety-nine, and one to the Garden.'"This weighed heavily on the people, and gloom and sorrow came over them. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I truly hope that you will be a quarter of the people of the Garden." Then he said, "I truly hope that you will be a third of the people of the Garden." Then he said, "I truly hope that you will be half of the people of the Garden."At that they rejoiced, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Keep working, and take heart. You stand between two creations, and neither of them has ever been alongside anyone without outnumbering them, Yajuj and Majuj. Among mankind, or he said, among the nations, you are only like a mole on a camel's side, or like the mark on a riding animal's foreleg. My community is but one part out of a thousand thousand parts."

عن عبد الله بن عباس قال

تلا رسول الله ﷺ هذه الآية وأصحابه عنده {يأيها الناس اتقوا ربكم إن زلزلة الساعة شيء عظيم} إلى آخر الآية، فقال: هل تدرون أي يوم ذاك؟ قالوا: الله ورسوله أعلم، قال: ذاك يوم يقول الله لآدم: يا آدم، قم فابعث بعث النار قال: فيقول: يا رب من كل كم؟ فيقول: من كل ألف تسعمائة وتسعة وتسعين، وواحدا إلى الجنة. فشق ذلك على القوم ووقعت عليهم الكآبة والحزن، فقال رسول الله ﷺ: إني لأرجو أن تكونوا ربع أهل الجنة ثم قال: إني لأرجو أن تكونوا ثلث أهل الجنة ثم قال: إني لأرجو أن تكونوا شطر أهل الجنة ففرحوا فقال رسول الله ﷺ: اعملوا وأبشروا، فإنكم بين خليقتين لم تكونا اس مع أحد إلا كثرتاه يأجوج ومأجوج، وإنما أنتم في الناس- أو قال: في الأمم- كالشامة في جنب البعير، أو كالرقمة في ذراع الدابة، وإنما أمتي جزء من ألف ألف جزء.
