He said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us to kill dogs, so much so that when a woman came in from the desert with her dog, we would kill it. Then the Prophet ﷺ forbade killing them and said, 'You must kill the pure black dog with two spots, for it is a devil.'"

Muslim narrated it in the Book of Musaqah (1572:47) through several routes from Rawh bin Ubada, who said, Ibn Jurayj narrated to us, Abu Zubayr informed me that he heard Jabir bin Abdullah say, and then he mentioned it.Ibn Abu Shayba also narrated it (5/406) from Yunus bin Muhammad, from Hammad bin Salama, from Abu Zubayr, from Jabir, in a similar wording. It contains, "So kill among them every solid black one that has two spots between its eyes, for it is a devil."
