The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The angels were created from light, the jinn were created from a smokeless flame of fire, and Adam was created from what has been described to you."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: خلقت الملائكة من نور، وخلق الجان من مارج من نار، وخلق آدم مما وصف لكم.
Muslim narrated it in Zuhd (2996) through multiple routes from Abdul-Razzaq, from Maamar, from Zuhri, from Urwa, from Ayesha, and he related it. Ibn Manda added in his narration the phrase "from clay" after the words "as was described to you" in Kitab Tawhid (482), after narrating it through the route of Abdul-Razzaq and others from Maamar with the same wording. He said in Radd Ali Jahmiya (p. 92), having narrated it without this addition, "This is a hadith firmly established by consensus."It was also narrated from Abdullah bin Amr, in stopped form, that he said, "The angels were created from light." Bazzar narrated it in his Musnad (6/440) from Ibrahim bin Saeed Jawhari, from Abu Usama, from Hisham bin Urwa, from his father, from Abdullah bin Amr, and he related it.Haythami said in Majma (8/134), "Bazzar narrated it, and its narrators are the narrators of sahih." I say, that is indeed so, except that it is a stopped report.
