The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever wrongs a person under covenant, diminishes his rights, burdens him beyond his capacity, or takes anything from him without his willing consent, I will be his adversary on the Day of Resurrection."In another narration, it adds that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ pointed with his finger to his chest and said, "Whoever kills a person under the covenant of Allah and His Messenger, Allah will forbid him the fragrance of Paradise, though its fragrance can be detected from a distance of seventy years' travel."
عن رسول الله ﷺ قال: ألا من ظلم معاهدا أو انتقصه أو كلفه فوق طاقته أو أخذ منه شيئا بغير طيب نفس فأنا حجيجه يوم القيامة. وزاد في رواية: وأشار رسول الله ﷺ بأصبعه على صدره: ألا ومن قتل معاهدا له ذمة الله ورسوله حرم الله عليه ريح الجنة، وإن ريحها لتوجد من مسيرة سبعين خريفا.
Abu Dawud (3052) narrated it from Sulayman bin Dawud Mahri, who said, Ibn Wahb informed us, Abu Sakhr Madini told me that Safwan bin Salim informed him, from a number of the sons of the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, from their fathers, and he mentioned it.Bayhaqi (9/205) narrated it via the route of Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Abdul-Hakam, from Ibn Wahb, with the same wording, and in it, "from thirty of the sons of the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." This addition belongs to him.Its chain is hasan because of Abu Sakhr Madini, and although the sons of the companions are not named, they are a large group, so their being unidentified is compensated for by their large number.His saying "duniyyah," with a kasrah on the dal, a sakin nun, and a fathah on the ya, is a verbal noun functioning as a circumstantial description, and it means "closely connected in lineage."
