He passed by some people in Sham who had been made to stand in the sun with oil poured over their heads.He asked, "What is this?"It was said, "They are being punished over the land tax."He said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Allah will punish those who torment people in this world.'"
أنه مر بالشام على أناس، وقد أقيموا في الشمس، وصب على رؤوسهم الزيت فقال: ما هذا؟ قيل: يعذبون في الخراج. فقال: أما إني سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول: إن الله يعذب الذين يعذبون الناس في الدنيا.
Muslim reported it in the Book of Righteousness and Kinship Ties (2613: 117, 118), from Abu Bakr bin Abu Shayba, who said, Hafs bin Ghiyath narrated to us, from Hisham bin Urwa, from his father, from Hisham bin Hakeem bin Hizam, and he related it.
