Ibn Yazid al-Bakri said, "I arrived in Madinah and entered the mosque, and found it packed with people. Black banners were fluttering, and Bilal stood before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with a sword slung over his shoulder."I asked, "What is going on with the people?"They replied, "He intends to dispatch Amr bin As on an expedition."
ابن يزيد- البكري قال: قدمت المدينة، فدخلت المسجد، فإذا هو غاص بالناس، وإذا رايات سود تخفق، وإذا بلال متقلد السيف بين يدي رسول الله ﷺ قلت: ما شأن الناس؟ قالوا: يريد أن يبعث عمرو بن العاص وجها.
Tirmidhi (3274) narrated it, and Nasai in briefly in Kubra (8553), and Ahmad (15953) at length, through two routes from Sallam bin Sulayman Nahwi, Abu Mundhir, who said, Asim bin Abu Najud narrated to us, from Abu Waail, from Harith, and he related it.Its chain is hasan because of Asim bin Abu Najud and Sallam Abu Mundhir, for both of them make the hadith hasan.Ibn Majah (2816) and Ahmad (15952) also narrated it, through the route of Abu Bakr bin Ayyash, who said, Asim bin Abu Najud narrated to us, from Harith bin Hassan, and he related it. In it appears, "This is Amr bin As, arriving from a military expedition." But it does not mention Abu Waail between Asim and Harith, and the correct position is to include him, as Ibn Abdul-Barr stated in the biography of Harith bin Hassan in Istiab, and as Mizzi stated in Tahzib Kamal (2/13).
