Reported by Nasai in Al-Kubra (8834), and Bazzar (Kashf Astar - 1722), and Ibn Hibban graded it sahih (4517), all of them through chains from Ibrahim bin Khalid Sanani, who said, "Rabah bin Zayd narrated to us, from Muamar bin Rashid, from Ayub, from Abu Qilaba, from Anas," and he mentioned it. Its isnad is sahih. It has other chains from Anas as well.Similar in meaning is what was reported from Ibn Masud's own statement, "Indeed Allah supports this religion through the immoral man." Reported by Tabarani in Al-Kabir (9/207-208) through the route of Abu Naeem, from Sufyan Thawri, from Asim, from Zirr, from Abdullah, and he mentioned it as a stopped report (mawquf). Ibn Hibban also reported it (4518) from Humayd bin Rabi, who said, "Abu Dawud Hafari narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Asim, from Zirr, from Abdullah (that is, Ibn Masud)," and he mentioned it as a raised report (marfu).There is disagreement over Asim's version regarding whether it is raised or stopped. Daraqutni discussed this disagreement in Al-Ilal (5/60-61), then said, "What is preserved from Asim, from Zirr, from Abdullah is his own statement, not raised."Amir bin Abda differed from Zirr bin Hubaysh, reporting it from Ibn Masud as a raised report. His narration is found with Musaddad in his Musnad (2113 - Al-Matalib). Zirr bin Hubaysh is more reliable than Amir by several degrees. And Allah knows best.
