We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at Hunayn when he said about a man who was counted among those who professed Islam, "This man is among the people of the Fire."When the battle began, the man fought fiercely until he was severely wounded. Someone said, "Messenger of Allah, the man you spoke of earlier, the one you said was among the people of the Fire, fought fiercely today and has now died."The Prophet ﷺ said, "To the Fire."Some of the Muslims nearly began to doubt. While they were in that state, it was said that the man had not actually died but had been severely wounded. When night came, he could not endure the pain of his wounds and killed himself. The Prophet ﷺ was informed of this and said, "Allah is the Greatest. I bear witness that I am the servant of Allah and His Messenger."Then he ordered Bilal to announce to the people, "None shall enter Paradise except a Muslim soul, and indeed Allah supports this religion even by means of a wicked man."
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Jihad and Expeditions (3062), and Muslim in the Book of Faith (111), both from the hadith of Abdul-Razzaq, who said, Mamar reported to us, from Zuhri, from Ibn Musayab, from Abu Hurairah, who mentioned it.
