I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "No prophet was ever sent, nor any successor who came after, except that he had two close circles of advisors. One circle commands him to do good and forbids him from evil, while the other spares no effort in corrupting him. Whoever is protected from the evil circle has truly been protected."
Nasai (4203), Tahawi in Sharh Mushkil (2112), and Tabarani in Al-Kabir (4/156) narrated it through various routes from Layth, who is Ibn Saad, from Ubaydullah bin Abu Jafar, from Safwan, who is Ibn Sulaym, from Abu Salama, from Abu Ayub, and he related it. Its chain of transmission is sahih. There is disagreement regarding it concerning Abu Salama. Some narrated it from him from Abu Ayub, others narrated it from him from Abu Hurairah, and others narrated it from him from Abu Saeed.Daraqutni said in Al-Ilal (6/117–118), after mentioning this disagreement, "The hadith of Safwan is not to be rejected, since it is possible that Abu Salama preserved it from Abu Ayub, from Abu Saeed, and from Abu Hurairah, and Allah knows best."
