The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Every ruler has two sets of close advisors. One urges him toward what is good and forbids him from what is evil, while the other spares no effort in corrupting him. Whoever is protected from the harm of the latter has truly been protected, and a ruler belongs to whichever of the two prevails over him."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: ما من وال إلا وله بطانتان: بطانة تأمره بالمعروف، وتنهاه عن المنكر، وبطانة لا تألوه خبالا، فمن وقي شرها فقد وقي، وهو من التي تغلب عليه منهما.
Nasai (4201), Ahmad (7239), and Ibn Hibban (6191), who graded it sahih, all narrated it from the hadith of Zuhri, from Abu Salama bin Abdul-Rahman, from Abu Hurairah, who related it. Its chain of transmission is sahih.It was also narrated as part of a longer hadith by Bukhari in Adab al-Mufrad (256), Tirmidhi (2369), and Hakim (4/131), through the route of Abdul-Malik bin Umayr, from Abu Salama, from Abu Hurairah, who related it. Tirmidhi said, "This is a hasan sahih gharib hadith." Hakim said, "It is a hadith whose chain of transmission is sahih according to the standard of the two Sheikhs."
