I heard the Prophet ﷺ say, "There is no servant whom Allah places in charge of subjects and who fails to safeguard them with sincere counsel except that he will not find the fragrance of Paradise."In another narration, "Whoever dies while deceiving those under his care, Allah forbids Paradise to him."
سمعت النبي ﷺ يقول: ما من عبد استرعاه الله رعية فلم يحطها بنصيحة إلا لم يجد رائحة الجنة. وفي رواية: فيموت وهو غاش لهم إلا حرم الله عليه الجنة.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Judgments (7150), and Muslim in the Book of Leadership (21:142), both of them through Abu Ashhab, from Hasan, that Ubaydullah bin Ziyad visited Maqil bin Yasar during the illness from which he died. Maqil said to him, "I am going to tell you a hadith that I heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I heard the Prophet ﷺ say..." and he related it. This wording is Bukhari's.Muslim's wording matches the other narration, which is also found in Bukhari (7151), through Husayn Jufi, from Hisham, from Hasan, with the same content.
