The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Truly, every one of you is a shepherd, and every one of you is responsible for his flock. The leader who is over the people is a shepherd, and he is responsible for his flock. A man is a shepherd over the members of his household, and he is responsible for them. A woman is a shepherdess over her husband's household and his children, and she is responsible for them. A man's servant is a shepherd over his master's property, and he is responsible for it. Truly, every one of you is a shepherd, and every one of you is responsible for his flock."
أن رسول الله ﷺ قال: ألا كلكم راع، وكلكم مسؤول عن رعيته، فالإمام الذي على الناس راع، وهو مسؤول عن رعيته، والرجل راع على أهل بيته، وهو مسؤول عن رعيته، والمرأة راعية على أهل بيت زوجها وولده، وهي مسؤولة عنهم، وعبد الرجل راع على مال سيده وهو مسؤول عنه، ألا فكلكم راع وكلكم مسؤول عن رعيته.
Bukhari reported it in the Book of Rulings (7138) via the route of Malik, from Abdullah bin Dinar, from Abdullah bin Umar, and he mentioned it. The hadith is not found in the Muwatta according to the narration of Laythi. Muslim reported it in the Book of Leadership (1829:20) via the route of Layth, from Nafi, from Ibn Umar, with the same wording.As for what has been reported from Abu Lubaba bin Abdul-Mundhir, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade the killing of snakes found in houses, and said, "Each of you is a shepherd, and each of you is responsible for his flock. The ruler who is over the people is a shepherd, and he is responsible for his flock. A man is a shepherd over his household, and he is responsible for them. A man's wife is a shepherdess over her husband's house, and she is responsible for them. A man's servant is a shepherd over his master's property, and he is responsible for it. Indeed, each of you is a shepherd, and each of you is responsible for his flock." An error has occurred in this narration.Tabarani reported it in Al-Awsat (2595, Majma Bahrayn) from Ali bin Saeed Razi, who said, our teacher Abu Musab narrated to us, our teacher Muhammad bin Ibrahim bin Dinar narrated to us, from Ubaydullah bin Umar, from Nafi, from Ibn Umar, from Abu Lubaba bin Abdul-Mundhir, and he mentioned it. Tabarani said, "None of those who narrated this hadith from Ubaydullah bin Umar, from Nafi, from Ibn Umar, from Abu Lubaba, stated it this way except Muhammad bin Ibrahim bin Dinar. Abu Musab was alone in narrating it."I say, the hadith about the prohibition of killing snakes was narrated by Ibn Umar from Abu Lubaba, and it was reported by Bukhari in the Book of the Beginning of Creation (3297-3298) and by Muslim in the Book of Greetings (2233:133). As for the hadith "Each of you is a shepherd," it was narrated by Yahya bin Saeed Qattan, as found in Bukhari (2554) and Muslim in the Book of Leadership (1829:20), as well as by Abdullah bin Numayr, Muhammad bin Bishr Abdi, and Khalid bin Harith Hujaymi, as found in Muslim (1829:20), all of them narrating from Ubaydullah, from Nafi, from Ibn Umar, from the Prophet ﷺ.Ibn Umar explicitly stated that he heard this from the Prophet ﷺ, as found in the narration of his son Salim from him, reported by Bukhari in the Book of Friday Prayer (893) and Muslim in the Book of Leadership (1829:20).From all of this it becomes clear that the mention of Abu Lubaba in the hadith "Each of you is a shepherd" is an error.
