The delegation of Abdul-Qays asked, "Messenger of Allah, what may we drink from?"He said, "Do not drink from gourds, vessels lined with pitch, or hollowed-out tree trunks. Steep your drinks in waterskins."They said, "Messenger of Allah, what if it ferments in the waterskins?"He said, "Then pour water over it."They asked again, "Messenger of Allah..."On the third or fourth time he said to them, "Pour it out."Then he said, "Allah has forbidden me," or he said, "Allah has forbidden wine, gambling, and the kubah."He added, "Every intoxicant is forbidden."Sufyan said, I asked Ali bin Badhimah about the kubah, and he said, "It is the drum."
Reported by Abu Dawud (3696) and Ahmad (2476), and Ibn Hibban (5365) graded it sahih, all of them via the route of Abu Ahmad Zubayri, who said, Sufyan (that is, Thawri) narrated to us, from Ali bin Buzayma, who said, Qays bin Habtar Nahshali narrated to me, from Ibn Abbas, who said, then he mentioned it. Its chain of transmission is sahih.
