The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was traveling when he came upon a group of people and heard a clamor among them. He asked, "What is this noise?"They replied, "Prophet of Allah, they have a drink they are drinking."So he sent for the people and called them over, then asked, "What do you steep your drinks in?"They answered, "We steep them in hollowed stumps and in gourds, for we have no other vessels."He said, "Drink only from vessels with tied mouths."He remained away as long as Allah willed, then returned to them and found that disease had struck them and their faces had turned yellow. He asked, "What has happened to you? I see you ruined."They said, "Prophet of Allah, our land is unhealthy, and you forbade us everything except what we tie up."He said, "Drink, but every intoxicant is forbidden."
Nasai (5655) reported it from Abu Ali Muhammad bin Yahya bin Ayub Marwazi, who said, Abdullah bin Uthman narrated to us, Isa bin Ubayd Kindi Khurasani narrated to us, saying, I heard Abdullah bin Burayda narrate from his father, who said, so-and-so. Its chain of transmission is hasan because of Isa bin Ubayd Kindi. Abu Zura said, "There is no harm in him." Ibn Hibban mentioned him among the trustworthy narrators. Dhahabi said in Al-Mizan, "His hadith is sound." And Ibn Hajar said, "Truthful."
